Mercedes has already evolved the W14's concept in their wind tunnel. The model has different sidepods. It isn't a plan B, it's just to see which concept holds the most promise. However, Mercedes' wind tunnel design is said to be closer to Red Bull'ull's sidepod solution. [AMuS]
